Description
The Director of Design & Construction is responsible for leading the teams across the state that handle the design and construction of all new residential and commercial natural gas services and other construction activities. Oversees ~600 team members and contractors responsible for the construction of 20,000+ new services annually, ensuring that all projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. Oversee the annual budget of around $150M in capital projects. Foster a culture of safety, operational excellence, continuous improvement and process building and innovation while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
This position can sit in Tampa (HQ), Orlando, Jacksonville, or Miami and requires 4 days a week in the office unless traveling to job sites.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
*Lead 100+ employees and 500+ contractors across gas service design, construction, replacements, and relocations.
*Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and in full regulatory compliance.
*Own planning and execution of a $150M annual capital construction budget.
*Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement, performance metrics, and process standardization.
*Champion contractor alliance partnerships and manage external developer and municipal relationships.
*Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Safety, Supply Chain, Finance, Regulatory, and Technology.
*Monitor KPIs across safety, quality, productivity, cost, and schedule performance.
*Represent Peoples Gas with regulators, municipalities, and industry organizations.
Required Qualifications:
*Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.
*10+ years of experience in gas distribution design and construction or comparable utility infrastructure.
*5+ years of people leadership experience managing large, multi-layered teams.
*Proven experience managing large-scale capital construction programs.
*Strong working knowledge of gas utility regulations, pipeline safety, and construction standards.
*Demonstrated ability to lead contractors, manage risk, and drive performance at scale.
